ANTOINE HAS HIGHEST FINISH IN YOUTH FAIR MEET
Hailey Antoine finished sixth in the 800 meter race in the Dade County Youth Fair Championship at Tropical Park. Her time of 2 minutes, 43.47 seconds made her the highest finisher among Southwest athletes. On the boys side, Joseluiz Guedez had the best finish, placing tenth in the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 6.35 seconds.
EAGLES WIN 6 EVENTS
AT KROP MEETSouthwest captured first place in six different events at the Lightning Sprint Out 4 at Krop High School. Santiago Aracena won the 200 meter dash in a time of 22.30 seconds while Joseluiz Guedez took the 800 meter event in 2 minutes, 14.12 seconds. On the girls side, Hailey Antoine captured the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 51.77 seconds and the 1600 race was won by Gloria Covarrubias in 6 minutes, 39.76 seconds. The 400 meter hurdles saw Jailyn Otero finish first with a clocking of 1 minute, 15.32 seconds. Gia Sanquintin captured the javelin event with a throw of 18.28 meters. The girls team finished second out of 7 schools and the boys placed second out of 8 schools. Goleman finished first on both sides.
4 SCHOOL RECORDS FALL AT HOMESTEAD MEET
The Southwest girls broke three school records and the boys broke one at the Bronco Nation meet at Homestead High School. Izabella Lara improved on two records she already owned, running the 200 meter dash in 25.91 seconds and the 400 meter event in 55.71 seconds. The 4x400 meter relay team of Lara, Melanie Uriepero, Jailyn Otero, and Aryana Flores broke the record they had set just a week earlier with a clocking of 4 minutes, 8.91 seconds. The boys 4x400 meter relay team set a new Southwest mark of three minutes, 33.38 seconds. The new record set by Christian Espinal, Joseluis Guedez, Derrick Ferguson, and Lucus Garcia, is 3 seconds faster than the previous best, established six years ago. Eagles finished first in two of the events in the 18-school meet with Lara capturing the 400 meter dash and Santiago Aracena winning the boys 200 meter run.
