EAGLES EARN TWO SECOND PLACE FINISHES AT DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS The Southwest girls team finished seventh and the boys 8th in the District 16-4A meet a Southridge High. Izabella Lara took second in the 400 meter dash in a time of 56.75 seconds. The 4x100 meter relay team also took second in a school-record time of 49.96 seconds. The runners were Melany Uriepero, Jailyn Otero, Shailyn Felipe and Izabella Lara. On the boys side, the top finish came from the 4x100 meter relay, which took third in 42.67 seconds. The team consisted of Benjamin Delgado, Jorge Fernandez, Santiago Aracena and Derrick Ferguson. LARA TAKES 3rd IN GMAC Izabella Lara had the highest finish among Southwest athletes in the Greater Miami Athletic Conference meet at Traz Powell Stadium. She placed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 56.71 seconds, one second slower than the school record she set earlier this year. Speaking of school records, the girls 4x800 relay team (Izabella Lara, Hailey Antoine, Jessenia Chartrand and Gloria Covarrubias) set a new Southwest mark with a time of 10 minutes, 51.99 seconds. The previous record had stood for 16 years. On the boys side, the top finish was the 4x400 meter relay team, which took 11th. The top individual finish was Santiago Aracena, who took 14th in the 200 meter dash.
