SOUTHWEST
WINS TOURNEY OPENER, 11-1
Three Braddock
errors and several passed balls led to eight unearned runs and helped
Southwest to an 11-1 victory in the first game of the Orange Bowl
Invitational at Palmetto Bay Park. The Lady Eagles (4-4) scored three
runs in the top of the first inning. Sherlly Roche led off with a
single and Gaby Nuñez was hit by a pitch. An error scored them
both and a passed ball brought home another run. Ami Casteleiro singled
in the fourth, stole second, and came home on an error to make it
4-0. Southwest added two more in the fourth inning without the aid
of a base hit. The Lady Eagles five-run fifth inning was highlighted
by an RBI double off the bat of Jaylin Novoa. D'Lani Navarro also
had an RBI single in the inning. Winning pitcher Yessenia Perez retired
the Lady Bulldogs (6-3) in the bottom of the fifth inning and the
10-run rule kicked in. Perez fanned seven in the game.
