Southwest jumped out to an 8-0 lead then held off a late-inning Ferguson rally to defeat the visiting Lady Falcons, 9-6, Wednesday afternoon at Tropical Park. The Lady Eagles (3-2), playing their first home game, scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning on just one hit, an infield single by D'Lani Navarro. Southwest added three more runs in the second when Camila Broz led off with a single and Jaylin Noboa was hit by a pitch. Yessenia Perez' infield hit and an error by the pitcher made it 7-0 before Yesenia Fonticiella's hit, couple with another Ferguson error, made it 8-0. Pitcher Perez breezed through the first four innings, allowing only one baserunner, before faltering in the fifth. The Lady Falcons (0-6) took advantage of shoddy defense to score six runs and make it a ballgame. Navarro scored the last Southwest run in the fifth, when she reached on a throwing error, tok third on a bunt single by Noboa and scored on a ground ball to short off the bat of Fonticiella.
