SOUTHWEST WINS THRILLING DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Southwest scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday afternoon to overcome a 7-run deficit and defeat Lourdes, 13-12, in the championship game of the district 16-6A tournament at Southridge. It was the second one-run victory over the Bobcats in the last week. Lourdes jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first but the Lady Eagles (11-11) quickly responded with three of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Bobcats tallied five in the second and two in the third to go up seven runs, but Southwest kept fighting. The Lady Eagles plated four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth and trailed only, 12-11, entering the final inning. Sherlly Roche, who scored four runs, led off with a single. An error put runners on the corners with one out. A bunt single by Ami Casteleiro loaded the bases. Jaylin Novoa singled to tie the game and Yessenia Perez singled to give Southwest the walk-off victory. Winning pitcher Perez allowed only five hits and two earned runs but was hurt by eight Southwest errors. D'Lani Navarro homered and drove in 3 runs for the Lady Eagles, who advance to next week's regional tournament against an opponent yet to be determined.
