JULIAN
RIVAS

ASSISTANT COACH

Julian Rivas retuned to Southwest in 2023 for his second stint on the basketball coaching staff. A veteran Tamiami basketball league coach, he replaced Roberto Fatjo as junior varsity coach in 2014-15. His 2015-16 team finished 13-6 and won two-thirds of their district games. SWEaglesSports.com has junior varsity records going back to the 1995-96 season and no JV team over that period had a better record. The win over Columbus was the first by the JV in 14 years and Southwest also defeated South Miami, 45-33. Rivas is a retired senior systems analyst for Miami-Dade County's Water & Sewer department and is a graduate of FIU. His son Jordan is a former player at Southwest.
