EAGLES CAPTURE TOURNEY TITLEWith two starters on the bench, Southwest rallied from a 10-point deficit to defeat St. Petersburg Northeast, 57-55, Monday in the championship game of the Cypress Point bracket of the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational in Wesley Chapel. The Eagles (7-5) were down, 41-31, with 3:15 remaining in the third quarter but pulled to within 43-40 by the end of the period. A layup with 44 seconds left gave Southwest a 54-53 lead, but the Vikings (5-7) answerd with a basket of their own to go back on top by a point with 0:24 on the clock. After two missed shots, Isaac Navarro put back a rebound with 3.6 seconds left for the win. He was fouled and made the free throw for the final margin of victory. Jeancarlos Arteaga was named tournament MVP. |
