EAGLES FALL IN OT Host Southwest, the only team to beat South Dade this season, almost pulled off another upset before falling in overtime, 54-44. Trailing by two in the fourth quarter, Ivan Fonseca scored on a layup to tie the score at 39-39 with 1:25 left. 40 seconds later, Fonseca hit another basket to give the Eagles (1-5) a 41-40 lead. After the Buccaneers (5-1) retook the lead with a pair of free throws, Fonseca sank a free throw with 0:07 on the clock to tie the game at 42. South Dade had a final attempt to go ahead, but Fonseca blocked a shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Southwest managed only two points, both free throws, in the extra period. The Buccaneers won the game on the foul line, going 17-26 from the stripe. The Eagles, by contrast, had only six free throw attempts, making three.
