Her 2002-03 soccer team was 9-6-3 and reached the regional quarterfinals before her 2004 softball team won the state championship, becoming the only girls team to win state in school history. Ritz was named the Miami Herald's girls coach of the year (for all sports) for 2003-04. The Herald started giving out a coach of the year award in 1993-94 when inductee Don Soldinger was the winner. Ritz remains the only Southwest coach to win the award. In her four years coaching softball, the Lady Eagles won at least 20 games each year and a total of 92.
