Jackie Yaniga is believed to be the only Southwest female athlete to play two different sports at the college level. A three-sport athlete in high school, she was a standout for the volleyball, softball, and basketball teams. Named All-State and All-Dade County first teams for both volleyball and softball as a senior, she was a finalist for the Miami Herald's Female Athlete of the Year award. In volleyball, Jackie posted career totals of 693 kills, 397 blocks, 254 digs and 83 service aces and led her team to the GMAC and Regional championships as a senior. A true scholar-athlete, she ranked 34th out of 768 students academically with a 4.713 GPA and 1120 SAT and was Southwest's nominee for Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Jackie also was a recipient of the Kiwanis Scholar Athlete scholarship. At George Washington University, she played both volleyball and softball. She left GWU as their all-time home run leader and still ranks third in career homers.
