CHERYL GOLDEN
Trainer, Athletic Director
1981-1997
Inducted: 2024
Cheryl Golden became the county's first female athletic trainer when she came to Southwest in 1981. From 1987-89, she developed and ran an At-Risk program at Southwest that benefitted many athletes. In 1989, Cheryl became athletic director and served in that position until she left Southwest in 1997 to assist Wayne Story, then head of the GMAC. She went on to replace Story and served 14 years as Executive Director of the GMAC, running high school sports in the county. The Dade Schools Athletic Foundation Coach of the Year Award is named in her honor. In 2016, The Miami Herald gave Cheryl a Lifetime Achievement Award and Delta Psi Kappa honored her with the Lifetime of Giving award. She is the first person to be inducted who did not attend Southwest.
