EAGLES TAKE A BEATING VS. SPRINGS, 47-0

Southwest trainer Joe Sciascia was the busiest man at Ted Hendricks Stadium Thursday night as Miami Springs coasted to a 47-0 victory in a preseason game. Alejandro Castellanos, the only quarterback on the roster, left the game after taking a blow to the head with 5:34 left in the first quarter. The hope is that he did not suffer a concussion and will be able to return next week. He was replaced at the signal-caller position by Livan Morales, listed on the roster as a wide receiver/defensive back. Morales suffered a clavicle injury 14 seconds into the second quarter while playing defense. He was sent for X-rays. The scariest injury came with 26 seconds left in the first half when sophomore defensive back Cedric Lyons went down and didn't get back up. Paramedics were called, he was taken off the field on a spine board, and taken to the hospital for X-rays. Reports are that Lyons was moving his extremities and there is hope that the injury is not as bad as it looked. The Eagles have only 34 players on the roster and only 31 dressed due to injuries suffered before the game. By the end of the game against the Golden Hawks, only 27 players were healthy enough to play. Danny McCray played most of the rest of the game at QB, although Jose Chacach also played a bit at the position. The Eagles biggest gain of the night was 24 yards when McCray was hit hard and fumbled. The ball squirted down the field like a wet watermelon seed with players from both teams unable to corral it. Finally, Kendrick Lowe fell on it for Southwest. Anton Graham Jr. also recorded a fumble recovery for the Eagles.
