SESSIONS SCORES 3 TDs IN 36-0 WIN

Sophomore Telly Sessions scored three touchdowns and senior Danny McCray added two as Southwest routed neighborhood rival Coral Park, 36-0, in the season opener for both schools. Sessions first touchdown came less than three minutes into the game on a 14-yard run. The extra-point attempt was blocked. A minute and a half into the second quarter, Sessions scored again, this time on a 19-yard pass from quarterback Alejandro Castellanos. A two-point conversion made it 14-0. McCray ran back the kickoff to start the second half 70 yards to increase the lead to 21-0, then scored on a 75-yard run on the final play of the third quarter to extend the margin to 28-0. Late in the fourth quarter, Saith Soto and Julien Castillo sacked the Rams quarterback for a safety, running the lead to 30-0. After a short free kick by Coral Park, Sessions ran for 14 yards on first down and caught a 19-yard pass from Castellanos for the final score with 53 seconds left. With the point differential being 35 points or more, the mercy rule kicked in and the running clock allowed time to expire before the Eagles could attempt the extra point. Southwest scored on three other occasions, but they were nullified by penalties. Lukas Aldazabal had a 50-yard interception return wiped out by a personal foul, McCray had a 43-yard scoring run called back and Kendrick Lowe had a 90-yard TD rush nullified by an illegal block.
