LADY EAGLES LOSE IN 3 INNINGS
For the second time this season, Southwest added a game to the schedule at Florida Christian. And, for the second time this season, the Lady Patriots sent the Lady Eagles home after three innings, this time winning, 23-8. Things started off well for Southwest in the top of the first inning when D'Lani Navarro started a two-out rally by drawing a walk. She took second on a passed ball and scored when Caitlyn Gorelick doubled to left. Camila Broz was walked and both runners advanced on an error by the catcher. Jaylin Novoa's double over the centerfielder's drove in two runs and, when she scored on an error by the secondbaseman, the Lady Eagles led, 4-0. Florida Christian responded by scoring six in the bottom of the first and 13 in the bottom of the second to take a 15-run lead. Southwest did not quit, however, and scored four more in the third. Navarro walked to leadoff and singles by Gorelick and Broz loaded the bases with nobody out. Novoa bunted and reached on an error by the pitcher as two runs scored. The play was costly for Southwest as Novoa injured her knee as she crossed the first base bag and had to leave the game. Broz scored on a wild pitch and a double by Priscilla Roche plated the final run. The Lady Patriots (6-4) scored four more times in the bottom of the third inning and the 15-run rule kicked in to end the game. The Lady Eagles fall to 4-5.
