EAGLES BLOW 17-POINT HALFTIME LEAD
Southwest jumped out to a 17-point halftime lead before
falling to visiting Coral Gables, 46-38. The Eagles (5-3, 2-2) took
the lead due to 15-for-20 free throw shooting in the first half. The
Cavaliers (5-2, 5-0) started pressing Southwest in the third quarter
and held the Eagles without a second half basket until 25 seconds
remained in the game. Gables outscored Southwest 30-5 after halftime.
The Eagles were playing without their top shooter, Albert Hernandez,
who was ill and did not dress. The loss ended a five-game winning
streak for Southwest. The scoring:
JV WINS THIRD STRAIGHT, 40-36
Adrian Piniero scored 10 points and Eddy Ramirez added 9 as the Southwest junior varsity upset visiting Coral Gables, 40-36. The difference in the game turned out to be two technical fouls called on the Baby Cavaliers in the first half for having incorrect numbers in the scorebook. Ramirez hit both free throws on one of the techs and Piniero made his pair on the other T. The Baby Eagles are now 3-5.
