Southwest's defense dominated from start to finish as the Eagles routed host Coral Reef, 66-34. The Eagles (2-2) had a balanced scoring attack with ten different players getting on the scoreboard. Chris Murray led in both points and rebounds with 11 and 7, respectively. Jean Grullon had 3 steals and Eddie Ramirez and Michael Almeida each drew two charges. Freshman Joel Aloma, younger brother of JV assistant coach Josel Aloma, was promoted to the varsity and was immediately inserted into the starting lineup. Carlos Luis hit two three-pointers in the fourth quarter to bring the Southwest junior varsity from behind and defeat host Coral Reef, 37-34. The Baby Eagles (3-1) were led by Luis (8 points) and Sebastian Gonzalez, who had a team-high 11 points including 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final period when the Baby Barracudas were fouling to get the ball back.
