In a game much closer than the final score indicates, host Doral Academy charter school defeated Southwest, 60-49, Thursday night. With just under five minutes remaining in the contest, the score was tied at 44-44, but the Firebirds (14-9) took control at that point. Carlos Taveras, as usual, was the offensive star for the Eagles (13-7) with 24 points, despite picking up two early fouls. The defensive star was Sean Perez, who came off the bench in the third quarter and shut down Doral's star shooter. Jaycee Ruiz had 11 points, six rebounds and two blocks for Southwest. The Eagles lost their second consecutive game for the first time this season.
