FLETCHER LEADS SOUTHWEST ROUT
Orlando Fletcher had 9 points, all in the first half,
and 8 rebounds to lead Southwest past visiting iMater Charter, 61-39.
After each team scored twelve points in the first period, the Eagles
(8-8) outscored the Knights (8-8) in the second quarter, 20-4, to
turn the game into a rout. Michael Almeida, who had missed the entire
season as he rehabbed an injury, made his first appearance of the
season when he entered the game to an ovation from the crowd to start
the fourth quarter. The cheering got even louder when he scored the
first basket of the period. Almeida finished with 4 points, 2 assists
and 2 steals. Albert Hernandez led in steals with 3 and Hernandez
and Andre Abreu each had 3 assists. The scoring:
GARCIA'S LATE BASKETS GIVES JV WIN
Southwest's junior varsity came from behind to score a thrilling 49-47 victory over visiting iMater Charter. Darian Garcia's layup with 57 seconds remaining tied the score at 47-47, then his basket with 14.5 seconds left gave the Baby Eagles (7-9) the lead. Robert Abrahante stole the ball in the waning seconds to seal the win. Garcia led Southwest with 12 points while Carlos Luis and Ian Castellanos each added 9 points.
