EAGLES LAY EGG IN BIG DISTRICT GAME

Southwest entered Friday night's game with a chance to move into a second place tie in the district. Unfortunately, the Eagles responded with what might have been their worst performance of the season in a 53-33 loss to visiting Coral Gables. Adrian Piñiero was the only Southwest player to score more than four points as he hit two three-pointers. The Eagles (10-5, 5-3) only made seven other baskets, all from inside the arc. The Cavaliers (12-5, 7-1) had an 18-7 lead after one period, 31- 21 at the half and 45-28 entering the final quarter. Chris Murray led in rebounds with 6, Joel Aloma had 3 steals and Eddie Ramirez drew two charges. The scoring:

JV ROUTS GABLES, 57-42

Carlos Luis his four three-pointers, one in each quarter, to lead the Southwest junior varsity to a 57-42 victory over visiting Coral Gables. The Baby Eagles (8-7) coasted in a game not as close as the final score indicated. Danny Leal had 11 points and Franklin Cruz had 10 points for Southwest.
