EAGLES LOSE HEARTBREAKERIn the closest game of the season, Lakeland's Excel Christian Academy edged Southwest, 62-61, Saturday morning in the final game of the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational at Carrollwood Day School. The biggest lead either team had was six points when the Spartans (6-3) led, 26-20, with just under a minute to go in the first half. Two quick three-pointers by David Fanning tied the game at 26 at halftime. The teams were tied, 42-42, after three quarters and tied 61-61 with 10.8 seconds left when a Southwest player fouled an Excel player while attempting a three-pointer. The Spartan sank only one of the three free throws, but it was enough to win the game. The Eagles (5-8) lost all three of their games in the tournament. |
