EAGLES BLOW 18 POINT 3rd QUARTER LEAD IN LOSS

It was not a good day for Southwest in the losers bracket of the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational at Carrollwood Day School Friday afternoon. First, the Eagles went to the wrong venue causing their game to start 10 minutes late. Then, Southwest blew an 18-point third quarter lead in a 56-52 loss to Kathleen High School Of Lakeland (the alma mater of former football great Ray Lewis). The Red Devils (2-8) full court press bothered the Eagles (5-7) and gave Kathleen an early 8-1 lead. After coach Roberto Fatjo called a quick timeout, Southwest went on a 16-0 run (during which the Red Devils coach never called time out) to take a 16-8 lead after one quarter. The Eagles still led 27-21 at the half and increased the margin to 39-21 with 3:22 left in the third period. Kathleen roared back to tie the game at 46-46 with 4:24 left in the game and a disgusted Fatjo pulled all four starters and a sub (starter Dylan Jaxon had already fouled out). The bench was outscored, 10-6, the rest of the way. Free throws were not free in this game. Southwest was 7-for-17 from the line and the Red Devils missed 10 foul shots just in the fourth quarter. The Eagles play their final tournament game Saturday morning at 11:20am at Carrollwood against Lakeland's Excel Christian Academy.
