EAGLES WIN VERO OPENER Southwest (6-5) was 19-for-19 from the free throw line
in a 48-43 victory over Orlando Colonial in the opening round of the
annual Holiday Hoopla tournament at Vero Beach High School. The Grenadiers
(4-7) led 18-14 after one quarter and 26-25 at the half before the
Eagles came back to tie the game at 31-31 entering the final period.
Southwest center Chris Murray picked up his third foul early in the
third quarter and was on the bench the final six minutes of the period.
The Eagles' lead was three in the waning seconds when Albert Hernandez
was fouled with 2.2 seconds left. He made both free throws to seal
the victory. Southwest will play host Vero Beach (5-5) at 7:30pm Thursday
in the tourney semifinals. The scoring: 3 JV PLAYERS ADDED TO VERO ROSTERThree junior varsity players were added to the roster
for the Vero Beach tournament. Adrian Piniero, Eddy Ramirez and Darian
Garcia all dressed for the Colonial game but only Piniero saw any
game action.
