HI-TIDES WIN SEASON OPENER, 61-55

Southwest collapsed defensively in the final period, losing its regular season opener to visiting Miami Beach, 61-55. The Eagles stormed to a 9-0 lead before the Hi-Tides pulled within 16-11 after one quarter. The lead was still 5 points at the half, 25-20, and 5 points entering the final quarter, 34-29. Early in the fourth period, Chris Murray, who had 17 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals, did something to tick off coach Roberto Fatjo and spent the rest of the game on the bench. Beach, which had only 29 points through the first three quarters, scored 32 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win. Guard Justin Pratt, who was expected to be out with an ankle injury, started for Southwest and had 6 points and 3 assists. The scoring:
