FLORIDA CHRISTIAN SPOILS SENIOR DAY With only six healthy players, host
Southwest put up a valiant effort before falling to Florida Christian,
33-25, Thursday afternoon. With the two
Sophias both sidelined with season-ending injuries, Dahively Ortiz stepped
up and turned in a career game with 17 points. The game was tight until
the final five minutes. Senior Bianca Borgeat hit a three-pointer to
tie the game at 21-21 with 5:41 remaining but, a few seconds later,
Luna Gomez fouled out, leaving the Lady Eagles with no subs. With 1:35
to go, Borgeat also fouled out giving the Lady Patriots a 5-on-4 advantage
for the rest of the game. Florida Christian won the game on the foul
line, hitting 13 of 27 free throws. Southwest, on the other hand, made
only 3 of 16 attempts from the line. The Lady Eagles are 3-9 heading
into Tuesday's district tournament quarterfinal game against Southridge.
The Lady Patriots are now 2-16. |
