SOUTHWEST MIAMI HIGH SCHOOL LADY EAGLES BASKETBALL

ARAUJO NAMED 2nd TEAM ALL-DADE

Junior captain Cameron Araujo was named second team All-Dade by the Miami Herald.

2020-21 SEASON REVIEW

Despite the constant threat of COVID, which shortened the season to 14 games, the 2020-21 Lady Eagles became the first Southwest squad in 19 years, and only the third in school history, to reach the regional tournament. The season started on a down note when sophomore sensation Madison Betancourt-Pina injured her knee early in the season opener and was lost for the year. The final record of 4-10 was deceptive because of the strength of the schedule but, as the team improved, they won three out of four games in late January. With Betancourt-Pina on the sidelines, junior star Cameron Araujo stepped up her already prodigious game and impressed coaches around the county. Her 32-point output against an 11-2 Palmetto team in the regionals may have been her best performance yet. Fortunately for Southwest fans, she has another year left and with a healthy Betancourt-Pina and eight other players with varsity experience returning, the future looks bright!
