CABRERA THROWS TWO TD PASSES
AS THE EAGLES BEAT THE RAMS, 25-6

Visiting Southwest scored three touchdowns and two safeties in an impressive season-opening win over Coral Park, 25-6. The game, played in sweltering afternoon heat, was a makeup of Friday's lightning-postponed game. The Eagles (1-0) totally dominated the first quarter. The Rams went on offense first and, after three plays, faced fourth and 28 from their own 14-yard line. Attempting to punt, a bad snap went into the end zone, resulting in a safety and a 2-0 Southwest lead. The Eagles got the ball back on a free kick and quickly marched 36 yards for a score, the points coming on an 11-yard pass from quarterback Pedro Cabrera to Christian Espinal. The Sebastian Raga extra point made it 9-0. On the next possession, Coral Park fumbled it away at their own 23 and, one play later, Cabrera hit Artavis West, Jr. with a 20-yard strike to make it 16-0 after one quarter. In the second period, Cabrera took a bad snap and ran it in from the one for an apparent touchdown, but it was nullified by a penalty. After a missed field goal, the Rams drove 80 yards for their only points of the game, which came on the final play of the half. Southwest blocked the extra point making it 16-6 at halftime. The Eagles received the second half kickoff and promptly drove 60 yards, scoring on a 10-yard run by Matthew Lefevre. The final scoring of the game came on the first play of the fourth quarter when Coral Park's long snapper channeled Willis Peguese and sent another snap into the end zone for a safety. Southwest has only 2 days off to prepare for Thursday night's matchup with Miami Springs at Tropical Park.
