EAGLES WIN ANOTHER SQUEAKER

Tyler Duarte scored from second base on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Southwest a 4-3 victory over Coral Gables at Andre Dawson Field. It was the fourth one-run victory for the Eagles (5-0) if you count the preseason game against Varela. Southwest scored three runs in the second inning without a base hit. Four consecutive walks to Erick Juvier, Duarte, German Ferrer and Javi Hernandez forced in Juvier. Duarte scored on a Chris Alvarez sacrifice fly and Ferrer stole third and scored on a throwing error by the Cavaliers catcher. Gables (4-5) scored twice in the third and once in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3. In the bottom of the sixth, Duarte drew a one out walk, stole second and scored when Javi Hernandez' hard hit ground ball glanced off the first baseman's glove. J.J. Cominsky struck out nine in five innings of work. Ish Espinoza was credited with the win after two shutout innings of relief. Southwest was able to pull out the victory despite one of the most clueless performances by an umpiring crew ever witnessed. Coral Gables started the game without a designated hitter. When they removed the starting pitcher, the Cavaliers coach said he made a mistake and meant to list the starter as both a pitcher and DH. The umpires, in violation of the rules, allowed the removed pitcher to remain in the game batting. One batter later, the umpires allowed Cavaliers relief pitcher Tyler Pielago to move from the fourth spot in the order to the third spot, another violation of the rules. The box score is here.
